Many prison farms, Angola included, have gruesome post-bellum histories. In the 1950s, '60s and '70s, Angola made news with a host of assaults - and killings - of inmates by guards. In 1952, a group of Angola prisoners found their work conditions so oppressive that they resorted to cutting their Achilles' tendons in protest. At Mississippi's Parchman Farm, another plantation-to-prison convert, prisoners were routinely subjected to near-death whippings and even shootings for the first half of the 20th century. Cummins Farm, in Arkansas, sported a "prison hospital" that doubled as a torture chamber until a federal investigation exposed it in 1970. And Texas's Jester State Prison Farm, formerly Harlem Prison Farm, garnered its claim to fame from eight prisoners who suffocated to death after being sealed into a tiny cell and abandoned by guards.

1. Uno motorcycle

Now this is something I would consider buying. The great thing about this motorcycle is that it doesn’t release emissions.

When he got home, Gulak drew up a plan for an all-electric unicycle that would emit no fumes and, he figured, be easier to weave through crowded streets than a standard two-wheeler. To give the ride more stability, he put the wheels side-by-side just an inch apart and directly under the rider, who accelerates by leaning forward, as he would on a Segway. When the rider leans into a turn, the inside wheel lifts and the outside wheel lowers, so both stay firmly on the ground. [via popsci]

2. The Batpod

This bike is definitely the coolest bike in any film ever made.

Re-inventing the motorcycle for the Caped Crusader took more than green screens and gadgets. Chris Nolan and Co. built a custom bike from plumbing parts and modded exhaust tubing, then loaded it with weapons and prayed the world’s best stuntman on two wheels didn’t fall off. 3. Monster Motorbike

Damn! The wheels of this one weigh three tons and can easily crush a car (seen in the picture below).

It’s the Monster Motorbike from Hell, a 10-foot-tall, 15-ton beast that drags vans around racetracks and flattens sedans as if they were soda cans. Baumann knew he’d need big tires to stomp cars, so he bought a pair of old three-ton wheels from a Caterpillar front-end loader. To power them, he used a six-cylinder diesel engine and gearbox ripped out of a tractor-trailer. [via popsci]

4. The wearable motorcycle

I don’t really know if it deserves the name “motorcycle” but freakin’ cool never the less.

“It’s like riding two skateboards at once, but stable, because the machine supports the rider’s body,” Loniak explains. These two skateboards, however, would be powered by lithium-ion batteries and ultracapacitors and capable of hitting 75 mph. “I never envisioned this as a commuter,” he says. “This is a sport bike.” [via popsci]

5. Renovatio

If one word can describe this bike, it would be elegance.

It brings motorcycle design input to level of Picasso’s single brush-stroke woman. The Renovatio is built around—and we do mean around—a water-cooled, GM-produced V-twin that puts out 150 hp in its normally aspirated version, and 190 horses in a supercharged variant. Much of the Renovatio is carbon fiber, making its 340-pound projected dry weight less than many of Japan and Italy’s sportiest sport bikes. [via popular mechanics - third one]

6. Yamaha Tesseract Hybrid

The last one comes to us from Gizmodo, and isn’t a motorcycle, but is worth a mention.

Featuring 4 wheels for enhanced stability, the frame is apparently still not much bigger than a normal bike. And somewhere in there fits two different engines, one gasoline of undisclosed size and another electrical.

Eklavya: The Royal Guard (2007)

It has been chronicled in the Geeta that Eklavya wanted to be Sage Dronacharya's disciple in order to excel at bow and arrow shooting, but was refused because of his low caste. He decided to teach himself, and did excel to such an extent that Dronacharya felt threatened that he would beat his ace disciple, Arjun, so he asked Eklavya for his fee - his right thumb, which Eklavya dutifully cut off and presented it to his Guru. Now in modern India, Nishab, whose father was Eklavya, who gave his life trying to protect his master, has now been re-named Eklavya himself, and has been entrusted to guard the lives of Rana Jaywardhan, Ranimaa Suhasinidevi, and their children, Harsh and Nandini, will be called upon to pay the ultimate price, after he learns that his master, the Rana, has been killed. Eklavya, who also carries a dark family secret, slays the two assailants of the Rana, but then in the process also finds out that the one who hired them is his very own son. What will prevail - duty or the love of his son?
